The Center for Research on Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST) was created in 1985. CERIST is a Public Institution Scientific and Technological intersectoral under the supervision of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

CERIST is organized into research divisions with activities in the following areas:

- Networks and distributed systems
- Information systems and multimedia systems
- Information Science
- Theory and engineering of computer systems
- IT security
