US Government Shutdown Is Damaging Cybersecurity
The US government has been shut down for 20 days because of a funding bill problem that Congress failed to agree on. For more than a fortnight over 800k Federal workers are out of the offices.
The new Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency at Homeland Security has over half its staff not working and a lot of its work has been closed.
Other areas of Homeland Security such as Automated Indicator Sharing has over 80% of its staff not working. Other areas of also affected with a lot of Secret Service staff not being paid.
The Department of Homeland Security has published an extensive document on its website in which it says:
‘Internet Services and DHS Network Access. The Department’s public website will remain accessible, but will not be maintained or updated. The DHS network will remain accessible to support exempt functions.’
The main issue that has caused the problem is the Mexican border wall that Trump is trying to get through Congress.
