Trouble At Three
Tens of thousands of Three mobile customers in the UK have reported they cannot get signal on their phones. Many frustrated customers took to social media to vent their annoyance at not being able to use any of the call, text, or data services on their phones.
Downdetector, which tracks websites, showed more than 20k people had reported their mobile service was affected on Friday 1st December afternoon and these problems have continued over the weekend into this week.
Customers have complained on social media that they are unable to make calls, send texts or use mobile Internet.
The company posted on X, formerly Twitter: 'We're aware that a small number of customers may be experiencing issues with our network this morning. The firm has more than 10 million customers across the UK and it has apologised for the outages.
It is unclear how many of them are affected by the outages, however, as those who rely on mobile internet may be unable to report the issue. Reports of a problem first emerged in low numbers, then increased substantially on Friday 1st December and over the weekend.
According to Downdector, intermittent problems have persisted over the last 24 hours.
The outages are also understood to affect some people using smaller providers which use Three's network.
Unplanned network issues like this can often leave customers without mobile signal, and there's nothing you can do except wait for your provider to fix the problem. Three uses different mobile frequencies and equipment to O2, Vodafone, and EE, so this particular outage should not be affecting those providers' signal.
Some users also reported issues with their 4G and 5G, as well as some customers having problems with "no signal" and "total blackout" on Smarty, a mobile phone brand which operates on the Three network.
Three have made no comment on the cause of the issue, although the company said on Twitter X on Saturday 2nd December that network services had been fully restored, although this process does not seem be completed so far.
Three is currently in the process of merging with rival operator Vodafone. The £15 billion deal would see Vodafone take a 51% stake in the new business and Three take the remaining minority stake of 49%.
