The NCSC Appoints A New Chief
Britain's National Cyber Security Agency (NCSC) has announced that Richard Horne will be its new CEO, replacing the first female chief, Lindy Cameron who will be the next appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of India.
In addition to becoming CEO Horne is also appointed to the Board of GCHQ, the national signals intelligence spy agency.
Horne will lead the UK’s national technical authority for cyber security as it continues in its mission to make the UK the safest place to live and work online with effect from the autumn of 2024, leaving PwC UK where he currently chairs the Cyber Security Practice.
The NCSC is responsible for delivery of the UK’s National Cyber Strategy, which includes increasing the UK’s cyber resilience, keeping cyber security at the heart of the UK’s approach to future technology challenges like AI and quantum computing, and making sure the NCSC continues to be able to manage the most critical cyber incidents affecting the UK.
Horne's new boss is Anne Keast-Butler, the Director, GCHQ, who said “I’m delighted that Richard Horne will become the next CEO of the NCSC... He brings with him a wealth of experience working with major companies and organisations to help them understand and manage their cyber security - and respond to incidents when they occur.
Horne is expected to make sure that the NCSC will drive cyber security up the boardroom agenda and develop its world-leading partnerships to address the cyber security threats facining Britain.
Before PwC, Horne was Managing Director of Cyber Security for Barclays Bank and has aloso worked in govermnet in the the Cabinet Office wher he helped formulate Britain’s first Cyber Security Strategy. Horne is a
a PhD in Mathematics from Royal Holloway, part University of London, a UK cyber security centre of excellence.
