Snowden Has No Plans to Leave Russia
Former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden has no current plans to leave Russia, Snowden’s lawyer Anatoly Kucherena said.
“He is in Russia. He is all right,” Kucherena said as quoted by the Russkaya Sluzhba Novostey radio station, adding that the whistleblower had no plans to leave the country in the near future.
A month ago, Kucherena told Sputnik that Snowden would consider returning to the United States, but he cannot rely on a fair trial. The second part of former US National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden’s trilogy will be published in September, Snowden’s lawyer and the author of the book, Anatoly Kucherena, told RIA Novosti. The second part of the trilogy, Children of Cain, is a psychological and political thriller based on Snowden. The book gives the history of an American informant, Joshua Cold, who is a character similar to Snowden and being followed by the government. The book will most likely be translated into several languages, Kucherena said.
Kucherena has sold the book rights to make a movie to Hollywood’s Oliver Stone who will soon announce the date and location of his premier of a movie based on former US National Security Agency whistleblower,It is reported that Snowden is not yet not yet considering applying for Russian citizenship
In June 2013, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden started leaking millions of classified government documents disclosing the agency’s widespread surveillance of civilian, government and corporate communications.
In July 2013, he was granted a one-year temporary asylum in Russia. On August 1, 2014, after a year in Russia, Snowden received a three-year residency permit. The US authorities have called on him to return to the United States and face trial on charges of espionage and theft of government property. If convicted, Snowden could face up to 30 years in a US prison.
