McLaren F1 Racing Are Cyber Secure With Darktrace
The famously successful McLaren Formula One motor racing team is to use Artificial Intelligence driven cyber security technology from Darktrace to improve visibility from on-board IoT through to its cloud-based backend, in a multi-year partnership.
Darktrace’s cyber artificial intelligence will be integrated across the whole McLaren Group, particularly in protecting its Formula 1 team against cyber attacks.
The partnership will involve a technical integration of Darktrace’s cyber artificial intelligence across the McLaren Group, as well as across McLaren Racing to protect the Formula 1 team against cyber-attacks. The sensitivity of the data involved and the implications of it being compromised, from both a competitive and financial perspective,
Darktrace’s work with McLaren will be essential for its continued success as one of the iconic teams in motor racing.
McLaren Racing was founded in 1963 and has won numerous races and F1 Championships over the years. The team is an acknowledged technical innovator, allowing the F1 the team to compete at their best in one of the most technologically advanced sports in the world. Darktrace’s Cyber AI technology will empower McLaren to gain complete visibility across its entire digital infrastructure, from IoT sensors on each Formula 1 car to the cloud-based software that fuels their operations, and identify threats as they emerge.
With strategists and engineers making critical split-second decisions, time is of the essence for McLaren and they will be using Darktrace’s ‘machine fights back’ innovation, a Cyber AI technology that can automatically block cyber-attacks at a speed and scale beyond human capabilities.
Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer at McLaren Racing said “Data is the lifeblood of our racing strategy and so strong cyber resilience is key to our success on the tracks. We look forward to starting our partnership together this season as Darktrace’s Cyber AI will, for the first time, allow our infrastructure to be self-defending.”
Darktrace say that their technology has been used to protect against such attacks as WannaCry and besides McLaren, it is in use at 3,000 organisations worldwide, including BT, First Great Western, Metro Bank, Ocado, TSB and William Hill.
