Cyber Monday Is Not The Same As Black Friday
As Christmas approaches, shoppers can engage on a massive global sale in November known as Black Friday. While you might already see numerous offers, the main event occurs later in the month. Usually Black Friday takes place following the Thanksgiving celebrations in America, which is the fourth Thursday in November in the US.
However, the tradition is now in other countries worldwide and has been extended earlier into November and immediately after Black Friday, which this year is on November 29, is Cyber Monday.
Retailers typically offer a few exclusive deals for online shoppers, providing one final opportunity to snag huge discounts before Christmas. Despite online shopping being a standard part of Black Friday deals in today's digital age, Cyber Monday still holds its spot in the retail calendar. It's often best for tech but does also encompass a vast array of products ranging from beauty, health, home and other items.
According to research conducted by finder.com, British shoppers are projected to spend an estimated £3.8 billion on Black Friday and Cyber Monday purchases in 2024.
Cyber Monday first started back in 2005 and has now become one of the busiest Internet shopping days of the year. This year it is on Monday, December 2. Just like Black Friday not being limited to a single day, retailers often start unveiling offers as early as Saturday, giving you a few days to mull over your purchases. Capitalising on these sales could see you ticking off some big-ticket items from your Christmas shopping lists without having to part with as much cash.
The largest online retailer, Amazon, has confirmed that customers can look forward to Cyber Monday deals from November 30 this year. Amazon also revealed that customers can anticipate massive savings of up to 40% off kitchen appliances from Ninja, Keurig, and GE Profile, as well as up to 20% off Stanley drinkware. Even more retailers are expected to announce sales closer to the time. In 2023, brands such as Boots, LookFantastic and others engaged.
Cyber Monday will fall on Monday 2 December this year. The main difference between the two sales is that Cyber Monday, as the name suggests, historically only takes place online, while Black Friday sees deals both online and in-store.
This isn’t a hard and fast rule, however, with plenty of brands continuing their in-store sales into the following week.
It is important to remember to only buy what you can afford and to search around for any possible cheaper deals before making a purchase.
